The wide diversity in belief in the Protestant churches is regarded by many as decisive proof that no effort to secure a forced uniformity can ever be made. Among its most prominent figures were Joseph Bates, James White, and Ellen G. What purpose, biblically, did prophets serve? This discussion will focus on several areas where she contradicts the Bible. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7 And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. 8 And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word. 9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail.

So long as these things continue, evangelicals must persist in questioning the status of the SDA church organization in Christianity, and much more, her claim to be God’s only true, end-time “Remnant Church.” SDA teachings most clearly contrary to the gospel and unorthodox in nature are its insistence on water baptism as an essential prerequisite to salvation, its teaching about the end time significance of sabbath observance to identification of true believers, and its doctrine of the Investigative Judgement. “…Christ made it clear that He required baptism of those who wished to become part of his church, His spiritual kingdom.” “In baptism believers enter into the passion experience of our Lord.” “…[B]aptism also marks [a] person’s entrance into Christ’s spiritual kingdom.…it unites the new believer to Christ.… Through baptism the Lord adds the new disciples to the body of believers — His body, the church.… Then they are members of God’s family” (SDA’s Believe…, pp. 182, 184, 187). “…[T]he divine institution of the Sabbath is to be restored… The delivering of this message will precipitate a conflict that will involve the whole world.

In response to the specific doctrinal criticisms raised, it is the purpose of this article to show that most if not all of these beliefs have existed (if on the fringes) within mainstream Christianity for well over 2,000 years. These dissidents refuse to accept the prophecies of Mrs. Compromise is impossible.” John Cardinal Gibbons, The Catholic Mirror, December 23, 1893. Though they remained separate both in administration and worship, the theological beliefs espoused by each entity’s adherents were common to both. The early churches of the Reformation believed in a critical, yet serious, reading of scripture and holding the Bible as a source of authority higher than that of church tradition. Something is very wrong here and I am inclined to believe the testimony. Fundamental to their doctrine is their belief in the imminent, premillennial, personal, and visible return of Jesus. The First Great Awakening was an evangelical and revitalization movement that swept through Protestant Europe and British America, especially the American colonies in the 1730s and 1740s, leaving a permanent impact on American Protestantism.

The Church had in place a localisation plan for education, health and administration. (AR 1969, 83) Adventist schools were expanded in the late 1960s: Betikama, with 320 students, was between 1968 and 1970 extended to be a full secondary school with new classrooms, dormitories and staff houses built of permanent materials. Over the last 10 years I have often had people ask me, Should I leave the SDA Church? He was unconscious, but I took his hand and said, “Bob, I am going to be praying that if God still has something for you, He will save your life.” The medical staff said if Bob survived, he would need a lot of care for the rest of his life. The people in the last days will have certain teachings. Well, apparently some of the professors at La Sierra haven’t been reading the history or doctrinal statements, and have been treating evolution in a less-than-completely-hostile fashion.

Beginning, no doubt, with Abel, the first to die, one by one the names of all are called and the destiny of each is decided.... White, suggested that the 1844 date was accurate but that a heavenly (thus invisible) event had taken place. This, to say the least, is a reckless interpretation of Scripture, particularly when you consider the fact that Revelation 13:11 specifically states that the second beast “had two horns like a lamb.” Somehow, the lamb became a bison which represented the United States!
